Abstract
Survival in today’s highly competitive world of steel manufacturing dictates that operating cost be minimized, productivity of operating units be maximized and products be of consistent and superior quality. Effective management of ladle operations in a steel producing shop is an important element in achieving these goals since the continuous casting of high quality semifinished products requires close control of steel-in-ladle temperatures.
The Stelco Hinged Ladle Lid System, a simple and reliable innovation, can serve as a cornerstone for achieving optimized ladle operations. The system and benefits available to the steel shop operator through its use are described in this paper.
