Abstract
Expert systems have been applied in several sectors. Some of the best results in implementing such systems have been in mining operation and in resolving scheduling problems. Furnace operators are now wondering if it can be utilized successfully to improve furnace safety and productivity.
An expert system can be very valuable for an operation. However, it is not a miraculous solution to unsolvable problems. If the solution has not been found, the expert system will be worthless. Thus, it is important to understand the system’s limitations.
