Abstract
Traditionally, developing a “Maintenance Strategy” was the responsibility of the Maintenance department, usually with little input from any other section of the business, as Operations, Supply and Engineering all “minded to their own business”. Unfortunately, most businesses soon realise that how we maintain our equipment is not the only factor in ensuring that asset capability is fully aligned with business needs. So, for the past three years, Hatch Associates, in conjunction with its clients, has been developing a process that facilitates the development and ownership of a total Asset Strategy that brings together all the “players” of the business to focus on how to best manage our Assets in alignment with business needs. How can this be done? By using an integrated process to:
- Engage and Align all stakeholders
- Focus on Defect Elimination
- Develop an achievable Implementation plan
Hatch calls this process “Gateway™” and this presentation will focus on a case study of the
application of the Gateway™ process at a large aluminium rolling facility in Australia that
achieved:
- A 73% reduction in downtime
- A 32% increase in throughput
- A 33% reduction in rejects
- An investment payback of three months
