Hatch's North American Infrastructure division wins award for engineering excellence
Hatch Mott MacDonald, Hatch's North American Infrastructure division, has won the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Engineering Excellence in the transportation category from Consulting Engineers of British Columbia for its work on the Sea-to-Sky Highway Improvement Project.
The Sea-to-Sky highway improvement project is a major upgrade to the safety, capacity, and reliability of Highway 99 between West Vancouver and Whistler, BC. The contract involves new highway construction, highway widening, and major improvements to 65 km of the 95-km corridor.
Site constraints of this vital transportation corridor include steep mountainous terrain, a sensitive environment, variable geology, and the need for minimizing any impact on the public and communities.
The scope of work includes highway realignment, widening, and repaving; 40 bridge structures; 110 retaining walls; drainage works; rock removal and stabilization; lighting and signals; environmental impact mitigation and enhancement; and landscaping and site restoration.
The client and project design-build contractor is Peter Kiewit and Sons.
Hatch Mott MacDonald is leading the design team.
Most highway sections have been commissioned, with project completion on target for August 2009.
