Hatch – Sargent & Lundy evaluates fire safety systems
The Hatch – Sargent & Lundy joint venture has been retained by Bruce Power to evaluate the fire safety systems of the Bruce Power nuclear generating station in Tiverton, Ontario, Canada.
As part of the Units 1 and 2 restart activities at the station, the existing fire safety systems will be evaluated for compliance with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) licensing requirements. The license requirements are enforced through Standard CSA-N293, “Fire Protection for CANDU Nuclear Power Plants.”
Major tasks include the evaluation of the capacity of the firefighting water system; evaluation of turbine separation; evaluation of fire-related measures for preventing radiological contaminant release; evaluation of life-safety measures; and evaluation of several accredited fire detection and protection systems and fire safety plans.
Hatch has been supporting the client in numerous studies related to the restart works.
The project is scheduled for completion in March 2010.
Hatch Oakville is undertaking the assignment.
