Abstract
Kidd Mine in Northern Ontario is now producing from Stage 1 of the Mine D expansion project – mining between 2100 m and 2700 m below surface. Planning for Stage 2 of the Mine D project is already welladvanced and will see the mine extended potentially to 3100 m below the surface. To ensure adequate ventilationis maintained at such depths, two large axial fans have been installed on the 6000 Level (1800 m below surface) as exhaust booster fans to operate in series with the surface exhaust fans. The Kidd Mine 6000 Level Booster Fans are a unique installation with unique and often unexpected challenges. These challenges have been met and attacked through the combined efforts of mine and fan manufacturer personnel with a common focus.
