Abstract
The Hatch Compact Reduced Iron Steelmaking Plant (CRISP) close couples conventional, established technologies: a direct reduction shaft furnace and a stationary arc furnace into a unique plant configuration to provide significantly improved plant availability and energy efficiency at a lower capital cost. The key to the proposed concept is the innovative use of a stationary six-electrode furnace as a continuous melter of direct reduced iron and scrap.
