Abstract
Following the serious fire incidents in European road tunnels in recent years the European Commission developed a number of “Thematic Networks” to address the overall question of safety in tunnels. These networks are tasked not with new research, but to find what is already known throughout the member countries and to assimilate this knowledge into a coherent form.
