Specialized Engineering Analysis & Design (SEAD)
 
The Specialized Engineering Analysis and Design (SEAD) group’s activities focus on providing practical engineering solutions to complex problems. A fundamental understanding of the underlying physics is typically required to understand the issues and develop a solution. Engineering knowledge, experimental skills, plus advanced analysis tools such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are generally used to execute projects.

In general, the SEAD group’s expertise is applied to:

  • Process and technology development
  • Problem solving, plant de-bottlenecking, and process optimisation
  • Custom design of process gas and water handling systems
  • Thermal-mechanical-electrical analysis and design
  • Complex structural analysis of systems and equipment, e.g., dynamic loads, high pressure

Advanced monitoring deals with the global aspect of a furnace: on-line heat balance and furnace wall integrity along with complex or difficult to assess monitoring.
