A team led by Hatch provided long-term multidisciplinary advisory services to support and strengthen the performance and management of water and energy institutions in Nepal.
Subsequently, the Hatch team provided technical assistance to the Government of Nepal on issues of water management and was asked to propose short-term remedies for water shortages in the Kathmandu Valley, the fastest growing region in the country.
Short-term recommendations focused on more effective use of surface and groundwater resources, which coupled with needed distribution system improvements, would alleviate water supply problems until a long-term inter-basin transfer scheme is implemented.
A team led by Hatch provided long-term, multidisciplinary advisory services to support and strengthen the performance and management of the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS) in the water resources and energy sectors.
The advisory services, aimed primarily at providing support and advice in institutional development, included assistance to WECS in the following
- The development of strategic planning capacity within WECS for water resource and energy policy
- The strengthening of WECS operational capacity
- The strengthening of action linkages between WECS and its key stakeholders.
