Abstract
Continued seepage at Shikwamkwa Dam, constructed in 1958, led Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. to undertake measures to extend the life of the structure. Then, using special monitoring systems and investigative tools, the utility selected the optimal time to replace the dam. The new dam, completed in 15 months, features a 65-meter-deep plastic concrete cutoff wall to control seepage.
