Abstract
The pyrolysis reaction of an oil shale particle is investigated through developing an analytical model. In particular, the role of diffusion, reaction decomposition rate as well as particle size is analyzed. It is found that the kerogen decomposition rate is varied exponentially with time while the oil and carbon dioxide production rates are nonlinear functions of time and will have a parabolic type of change. It was found through this study that the oil shale particle size is very significant during oil production and plays a very important role. The diffusion was also found to have a similar effect as particle size.
