Recurrent Energy is developing several solar facilities in southern and eastern Ontario. Recurrent retained Hatch to determine if there are any environmental constraints that could stop the project’s development or would necessitate modifications to the layout of the solar panels.
Hatch completed environmental constraints assessments that involved the review of:
- Existing databases of natural features including provincially significant wetlands, creeks, known species at risk, and areas of natural and scientific interest
- First Nation’s land claims on or in the area of subject properties.
Site visits validated the desktop information. All potential physical constraints were mapped using GIS. Reports on each property were provided.
All reports were provided on time and within budget. Cost savings were realized since many of the sites were located close together and therefore shared similar information.
The client was able to use the information to provide more accurate layouts and avoid sensitive environmental features. The information will be used to advance into the renewable energy approval process.
