Abstract
Performances of belt conveyor cleaners and the methods to evaluate them are discussed. The cleaning system should have five types of performances such as high cleaning efficiency, prevent belt damage, be safe to operate, long service life, and easy to maintain. The use of belt scrapers is normally the first process involved in belt cleaning. The washing devices usually consist of a spray pole and nozzles that direct a fine water spray onto the belt in front of the econdary cleaner. The selection of a proper cleaning system has a significant role in cast efficient maintenance of a clean plant. Tests on belt conveyors transporting bituminous coal have shown that the cleaning depends upon the selection of sets of cleaning devices. (12 refs.)
