Rory Kirk joined Hatch in 2001 as Regional Director – Africa, Mining and Minerals Processing, and in 2002 was appointed as Project Director for the Impala Platinum underground mine and plant.
Rory’s career includes extensive project and general management experience in the South African open-cast and underground mining industry where he has led project teams from feasibility to final commissioning. Prior to his career with Hatch, Rory was Head of Capital Projects and Engineering for a South African gold mining company. He is also the author of numerous technical papers.
Rory graduated from the University of Witwatersrand where he earned a BSc in Electrical Engineering, as well as the University of South Africa’s Management Development Programme, and the University of Stellenbosch’s Masters of Business Administration program. He holds an Engineering Certificate of Competency from South Africa’s Department of Minerals and Energy.
Rory is involved with the Association of Mine Managers and the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE). He is a member of the CEO Forum for Executive Group Networking, Chairman of the Industry Advisory Council for the Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering Faculty at the University of the Witwatersrand, and a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Minerals Education Trust Fund (METF).
One of Rory’s passions is spending time in his workshop at home. There, in addition to various carpentry, cabinetry and woodworking projects, he rebuilt a pre-1962 Land Rover.
